Reading is Good Medicine

This is how one of my problems also was able to help my son's....

I love to read before going to sleep at night. It wasn't always that way.  I was always a very light sleeper and everything and anything woke me up. I couldn't sleep through the night. I would wake up several times a night and I never really reached that deep sleep state. My husband's restless leg syndrome was torture. We live two blocks from a train track and trains go through constantly. I considered going to a sleep therapy clinic for help but I knew it wouldn't be a cheap route. I was hoping that there might be some other alternative.
Then ten years ago it changed. I'd like to believe that the universe brings to you what you need, when you need it. It only took two simple things, an ordinary fan and a book.
One summer while very hot, I noticed that while running our fan during the night I didn't hear the trains going by. At that time I still didn't completely sleep through the night for my mind from my busy day kept churning but the fact that the fan was helping mask some of the noises which contributed to me awakening several times a night was certainly a good start. That same year I had joined a book club and started getting a lot of books. Some of my favorite books are those that inspire you. I started reading a few pages every night while sitting in bed. I noticed that reading these books and pages was relaxing and I didn't think about work or other things before bed. Before long I was able to get into that deep sleep. I was no longer  bothered by my husband's legs and he can't believe it. Now I sleep with a fan all year long and read. I created my own sleep therapy!
I have also been able to help my eight year old son. Now for him he had no problems staying asleep, he just wasn't able to initially get there. He would state that he couldn't stop thinking of things, some of which were fears that he had. Although I would reassure him, he was getting to the point where he didn't want to sleep in his own room. Since the kids were real little I would read to them but I decided that it might be more beneficial if he read himself . At first he would read to me then I started leaving the room and allowed him to read by himself. I would tell him how many pages to read and then he needed to go to sleep. I would then go back and check on him and he would be asleep or close to being. I guess it allows them to focus on something else . Having my son read himself also increased his attention span as well as help him jump a reading level while he was in school. Kids don't even know they are learning.
I am now always looking for good positive children's books that I know that he would be interested in. Oh, and reading lights are cool too!
May you have some good z's!

Life Lessons

I just finished watching a three minute movie about lessons on life from Jim Rohn. It is truly moving - stirring quotes from Jim Rohn and beautiful images throughout. I want to share it with you as I think youll enjoy it as much as I have.

The Funny Things Kids Do

I thought I would share this story with you about a cute incident my youngest son did the other day.
Were we live the weather can be from one extreme to the other. Currently we have been in a heat wave and my husband I get text messages when ever there is extreme weather coming or for any cautions that we should be aware of. A few days ago we received a text about the heat. It stated that it would be 90 degrees and the heat index would be over 100. The TV news even indicated that everyone needed to be cautious about being out in the sun, that everyone should drink plenty of water, limit their time out, wear sun screen and keep covered or stay in if possible.
Of course being summer the kids want to be outside every chance they get. Well my  youngest was wanting to go out in the hottest part of the day and his dad was trying to explain and remind him of what the news people just had said and that it would be best if he waited until later more towards the evening when the sun would start to be going down. My son seemed ok with it and we went about our business. About 10 to 15 minutes later my son comes from out of his room wearing jeans, a flannel shirt, not to mention his leather jacket, his snow boots, a cowboy hat and his batting gloves. He said " Now I am all covered up so I can go out side." My husband and I couldn't help but chuckle. All he needed yet was a sky mask. It's funny how literally kids take things sometimes.
I am sorry to say I didn't think on capturing that Kodak moment but I'll just leave it to your imaginations.

May You Have a Good Laugh Today!

If At First.....

I believe everyone knows the saying "If at first you don't succeed try, try, again". I am sure that this saying has been applied to at least one thing in every ones life and most probably for those who have tried to find the right Home Based Business . It certainly has for me.
I have always had that thought of making some kind of income from home after my first son was born. The thought of having to go back to work and leave him just pulled at my heart strings. Many things crossed my path but none that didn't cost a lot to get started or didn't seem like a scam. Ultimately I had to return to work. One of the good things at that time was that my family was able to watch him and I didn't have the cost of a sitter, yet on the other hand they were there for some of his firsts.
When my second son was born, I was able to take a whole year off. During that time I did try several things that just didn't work out. Selling isn't my thing, big investments, nor is buying things that won't sell..There is so much out there it is kind of a challenge to find the right fit. One cause of failure is the support that is offered but really not given or you have to spend lots more to get it. Needless to say I returned to work.
Then comes along my third son.  Again I am faced with having to go back to the long hours away from home. This time I am now also looking to have to hire a sitter due to health issues with my family member. I decided to try working only part-time and my husband had to switch shifts so we didn't have the daycare cost. Ultimately, things were tight, not much family time and I didn't see my husband much.
In my first thoughts of wanting to earn an income from home, the reasons were more selfish in the fact that I just didn't want to be away from my family. I also didn't want my children to grow up learning how someone else would have them be. Today, with the economic times, it has become more of a necessity to have some other type of income. Two years ago, my husband was let go from his job due to downsizing. I then had to go back to full-time. Being with my family had even gone farther by the wayside not to mention it was much harder to get involved with my children's activities and keep up with the things needed at home.
My decision to find another source of income has now come into force. Already being away from home fifty hours a week, getting a second job was not really feasible. So again, I start searching into the many Home Business Opportunities. I signed up for any free information I could, joined some online mom social groups and came across a great group of  moms who work from home for a company called Internet CEO Moms.  They truly are dedicated in helping you to your success.  I love the unlimited support and the fact that I can work around my other job and other family affairs. Being able to better my family feels awesome!
Everyone of the women of this great company has a different story and different situations.

Oh My Animals! Oh My Children!

There is many joys into having animals as there is with children. One of the less joys is the messes they make to which you have to clean up. If you have children, you know it could just about be anything. It can range from coloring on the walls, tracking in mud, to spilling various substances, etc. One of my  best messes from my cats is hairballs all over the place, like right where you want to step without any shoes. One of my favorite cleaning products that will clean up any type of mess is Sol-U-Mel. It is a all natural product with no harsh chemicals. Safe to use around your loved ones.
Back in February one of my beloved pets, Murphy, a golden retriever who was old and  sadly now no longer with us, couldn't help himself and started having accidents in the house. After cleaning the spots with other products several times and even using a shampooer, the spots would still appear after awhile. I decided to use the Sol-U-Mel. I sprayed each spot and let it soak in and then used a shamy to pat the extra moisture out. I haven't seen those spots again! If only I thought of it first!

Rainy Day Fun

I have three active boys always looking for fun things to do. Rainy days I guess are even more challenging and kids seem to get bored more easily. I am not sure with all the things they have available to them these days why this is so. Maybe they just want to use their own creative minds as they did this one most recent rainy day.
With a big roll of the black plastic that carpenters use, some dish soap, towels and swim suits, they headed down to the reservoir. Guess what they were going to do?
Although I kept telling myself that it isn't that much different than going sledding down the side of this huge hill, my mother concerns and curiosity had to go down and check it out. Needless to say it was quite interesting. The kids rolled out this big sheet of plastic that reached the top and bottom of the hill. Of course the rain kept it wet, dish soap was used to make it more slippery.
They were having great fun taking turns down this black slimy carpet only to have the rain stop. It was a good idea while it lasted.
As I see it, it was good, CLEAN, fun. The only things I would be cautioned with is to make sure it is not lightening, storming etc., wear a shirt with your suit for if you stray the path of the plastic the blades of grass kind of leave its marks and the last is to ensure there are no obstacles in your way that you could get injured.

Have A Great Summer!
